Pique ‘in reverse’ last year

Gerard Pique has admitted that last season was his worst since returning to Barcelona, but he is now ‘more mature’.

The centre-back spent parts of last season out of the team for technical decisions, as he struggled to find form for Barca.

“In the early years everything was all very grounded, but in my fourth season [2011-12] I moved into reverse. The Euros came in handy,” reflected Pique to El Periodico today.

“I am more mature, I now choose better things to do. Previously, it was much more brazen. I’ve have learned that if you are good with the ball, everything else flows.

“Being famous? I still have the same friends, the same family, but in my private life it was an inconvenience. I won’t say it’s a problem, just an inconvenience.

“Initially, it cost me, but once I adapted I knew how to live with it.”

The former Manchester United man also spoke again of the impact Pep Guardiola had at the Camp Nou as Coach.

“I never would have thought that a person could know so much about football like he does. We won the treble, the six titles, something no-one has done in 100 years.

“That does not happen because someone rolls a dice and it lets you get what you want.”
