Montanier: Lack of freshness a factor

Real Sociedad Coach Philippe Montanier thought lack of recovery time was a factor in his side’s disappointing 0-0 draw with Osasuna.

The Txuri-urdin had the opportunity to temporarily go fifth with a win at Anoeta last night but could only take a point from their struggling visitors. It was a second game in five days for Montanier’s side, who thrashed Rayo Vallecano 4-0 on Monday.

“It is true that there were two days of recovery difference between them and us, and in this game we lacked a bit of spark to make the difference,” the Frenchman declared post-match.

“Yet we fought until the end, as we have done on many occasions.

“It’s a little disappointing, because we expected to add our third straight win and take a step forward, but we were less comfortable with the ball as Osasuna pressed very well throughout the match.

“They were very good in defence, very solid. We were unlucky in attack and unable to play the kind of quality football we like. Yet we have a good dynamic, three games unbeaten.”

The result leaves La Real 9th with 17 points.
