Pina: Concede fewer, do better

Mallorca midfielder Tomas Pina believes that the club will have a better success if they stop shipping goals at the back.

The island side are without a win in all competitions since the end of September and have so far conceded 20 goals from their opening 12 League fixtures.

For Pina, this is where the fault for the form lies and where the room for improvement must come.

“Our previous success has been based on defensive solidity. Since arriving, Caparros emphasised the importance of working at the back,” reflected Pina to reporters this week.

“Currently we are conceding goals more easily, we create fewer chances and still score, but we have to be self-critical. If we can lower the number of goals conceded we will achieve our targets more easily.”

The next objective is some points away to Rayo Vallecano this Saturday afternoon.

“We wanted more than a point, but we are happy. We must be satisfied that we changed the run of results, whilst we took a point against a team that will fight hard so as not to go down this season.

“We have to maintain this, the dressing room as taken note. Let’s see if we can take something out of Vallecas, what we all want is a win, but seeing how the game goes, a point may not be bad.”
