Simeone: Atleti less Falcao dependent

Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone is pleased that his side are becoming less reliant on striker Radamel Falcao.

Falcao is the Rojiblancos top scorer with 10 La Liga goals this season but has not netted in the last three games.

“We’ve scored in almost every game,” Simeone stated in a Press conference previewing tomorrow’s Europa League encounter with Hapoel Tel Aviv.

“Arda Turan has three goals and others are doing well also. That we are not so dependent on Falcao is fantastic.

“The match tomorrow has to be approached with concentration. In the League we have done well, and that has generated enthusiasm. We have to form a group that is strong and competitive, with a clear identity.”

The game will be Simeone’s 50th in charge of Atleti, but he is not overly concerned with the landmark.

“I was not aware, I read it this morning. As a Coach you live for the moment. You have to focus on things, there will be time later to look at the statistics.”

Goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo, who will play in place of the rested Thibaut Courtois, was also on hand to speak to journalists.

“I am trusted in Europe. I’m playing well and I’m happy. Last year was a transitional one for me, but playing in Europe is important and getting minutes is great.”
