Montanier praises La Real efficiency

Real Sociedad boss Philippe Montanier praised his side’s effectiveness in front of goal in Monday’s 4-0 win over Rayo Vallecano.

The win moved the Basques up to ninth place in the table after flirting with the relegation places in recent weeks, a point that was not lost on Frenchman Montanier, and it was the finishing he believed tipped the balance.

“We played very well and I think that was a continuation of our previous home games, but this time we were more efficient in taking our chances, hence the result. Rayo had just won two successive games and I have a great respect for them, but we won well,” he told Diario Vasco.

La Real won away at Malaga last week and the situation has changed in just two games after a section of fans had previously called for Montanier’s head.

“There was a small number that screamed ‘Montanier out’ but they were shouted down by the others, but what I care about is the quality of the team and that people go away happy.

“I am not important and all I’m looking for is what is best for the team. Before the Malaga game people said we were too close to the bottom and now, after six straight points, we must keep a cool head and show the same attitude so we can continue adding more points.

“Everyone is more relaxed when we win but we have to maintain the pressure. These two victories do not make a season and the attitude needs to be the same, although it’s easier to work when you are more relaxed.

“We have a lot of young players and it’s positive they have got good results when there has been a lot of pressure on them. Every game is vital and we’ll have to continue on the same road.”
