Benat aims to be derby protagonist

Midfielder Benat Extebarria is hoping to shrug off jet lag and inspire Real Betis to victory in the Seville derby on Sunday.

The 25-year-old, who scored both of the Verdiblancos goals when they defeated Sevilla 2-1 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan last season, started Spain's friendly against Panama in midweek.

“I'm a little tired, but better than expected and ready to play on Sunday,” he informed assembled media. “I would like to repeat what happened last year, and if I can score that would be good, but what matters is that we win the derby. It's a special game.”

Benat then expanded on what it is that makes the Seville derby special.

“In these type of games you have to give everything. They are heated encounters in which winning is complicated and there is no need to motivate anyone.

“Sevilla have a very complete team, but in a derby you must be careful of anyone. They are a difficult opponent.”

Finally the former Athletic Bilbao man discussed the uncertainty surrounding his future.

“I expect a call from my representative to see if there is anything new. It's an issue that sometimes tires you, but I'm fine at Betis. I'm happy, not anxious.”
