Atletico ponder Dzeko and Suarez

Atletico Madrid are thinking over moves for Edin Dzeko and Luis Suarez if Radamel Falcao decides to leave the Vicente Calderon.

According to AS, Los Colchoneros are planning on still having the Colombian hitman around for next season but it may decide on a number of factors, not least of which is if Diego Simeone’s men qualify for the Champions League.

There is also the worry for Atleti that one of Europe’s richest clubs may come in and agree to pay the release clause in the player’s contract, as happened with Sergio Aguero.

Consequently, director of football Jose Luis Caminero wants to have a contingency plan in place in the case of any eventuality and is lining up Manchester City’s Dzeko and Liverpool’s Suarez as possible alternatives.

Dzeko is out of contract in 2015 at the Etihad Stadium and has struggled to get into Roberto Mancini’s starting line-up this term, although he has demonstrated an impressive scoring record when coming off the bench as an impact substitute.

Suarez, on the other hand, is an important part of boss Brendan Rodger’s side at Anfield, but AS maintains Atletico have received reports the Uruguayan is almost certain to leave next summer as the Reds have shown few signs they could be challenging for trophies this term.

In Dzeko’s case City might look to broker a deal that includes the Bosnian as part of a deal to take Falcao to the Premier League, while a failure to land either could see a move for Napoli’s highly-rated Uruguayan international Edinson Cavani.
