Raul: Madrid must win with respect

Real Madrid legend Raul has commented on the controversies surrounding the club in the last few years.

The 35-year-old, now with Qatar outfit Al-Sadd, was speaking at an Aspire4Sports ceremony also attended by former Madrid players Fernando Hierro, Pedja Mijatovic and Gheorghe Hagi, where he sent a message the club.

“At Real Madrid there are no friendlies. You have always got to win but also need to give a good image of yourselves, respect your opponents and conform to certain values.”

They were sentiments agreed with by ex-teammate Hierro, who surprisingly referred to the example set by Barcelona.

“With the internet and social networks readily to hand these days it is difficult to get any cohesion within a group.

“That’s why I admire veterans such as Xavi [Hernandez] and [Andres] Iniesta who transmit their personality to the club.”
