‘Ozil is technically perfect’

Ruud Gullit is a keen admirer of Real Madrid’s Mesut Ozil, suggesting that the German is a ‘technically perfect’ footballer.

The Dutchman was talking to German newspaper Bild today in anticipation of the Netherlands once again crossing swords with Germany this midweek.

Asked which German player he would take for the Oranje, Gullit was clear in his choice.

“Give us Ozil! Now. We need him. He is technically perfect. The ball obeys him. Things happen in his head that are wonderful. He passing game is perfect for the Netherlands,” commented the Euro 88 winner.

“Currently, neither team have any of the game’s superstars, though. There are some good players, very good players, some excellent and exactly three stars in world football.

“To me, the stars are only Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar. Germany’s Marco Reus is a great player, but he is not a super-super-superstar.

“For the Netherlands, we have few experienced players. Robben, Van Persie, Van der Vaart and then you stop counting.

“Of the rest there are many youngsters in the team. It is difficult for us, whilst our defence is also not very strong.”
