Granada, Betis’ ‘biggest game’

Pepe Mel believes that Real Betis are at risk of losing at home to Granada on Friday night, if they do not treat the game with enough attention.

Los Beticos took a top four spot on Monday night with their 4-2 win at Getafe, but Mel recognises that his players may be getting distracted as a result.

“This game is the most important of all that we have played so far this season. We are doing well and all of Spain have praised us this week…and that is very dangerous,” warned the Coach today ahead of Granada’s visit.

“When we are in good form, I do not know why, but we do not maintain it. If Granada win then it will be because they are better. The approach for the game is for ourselves. Granada have good players and a good Coach who works well.”

Mel was again asked of the possibility of keeping hold of Benat Etxebarria, even as he still continues to stall on renewing his contract.

“The first risk is that we lose Benat in December. My advice is the best thing for him to do is to stay with us until the summer.

‘He knows I will support him, we have grown together here. He was in Segunda B and now he is with the Spain team. By the summer, I am sure he will have renewed his contract.”
