‘Don’t screw this up, Betis’

Real Betis can relax a little after moving up to 19 points, but they cannot afford to get complacent, as Pepe Mel warns after beating Getafe.

Los Beticos ran out 4-2 winners over their hosts on Monday night in a game that their Coach felt deserved to go their way.

“The first half was more tactical, more equal, but in the second we have broken with the goal for Jorge Molina. We have deserved to win, because to put four goals past Getafe is significant,” Mel told reporters afterwards.

“The best thing now is to have won the 19 points that gives us peace of mind to keep working, because last year at this point we were on 12 points.”

However, the Coach played down the significance of the position of fourth place that is currently matched with those 19 points.

“I want the team to be in these positions in June, not now. I have to convince people that the most important game is now the one that follows this, against Granada, because when we are seen as favourites, Betis are a specialist in screwing things up.

“If we think we are good and should win, we will lose.

“Benat’s goal was good today, but otherwise he has not been well. For this team he can give more of himself.

“Meanwhile, for our opponents, we must continue to respect them and work well, because the League has many ups and downs. These 19 points allow us to address the following games with a smile.”
