Villa ‘could have lost leg’

The doctor who operated on David Villa after he fractured his tibia has revealed that the Barcelona forward risked losing his leg.

Villa had to fly home after suffering the injury last year at the World Club Cup, which was held in Japan.

“When the pressure changes to eight, ten, twelve thousand feet, injuries can be dangerous,” Dr Ramon Cugat said in 'Esports Cope.' “You can even risk losing a limb”

Villa is back scoring goals for Barca this season and Cugat believes Coach Tito Vilanova deserves a lot of the credit.

“Vilanova has looked at things from a very scientific point of view. He has been very clever. Villa is better now than he was in the season before getting hurt.”
