Figo: Champions? I just hope its Real

Former Real Madrid star Luis Figo is refusing to write off Los Blancos chances of overhauling Barcelona in the title race.

Figo, who controversially transferred from Barca to Real in 2000 and is now an ambassador for Inter Milan, doesn't believe the Blaugrana's eight point La Liga lead is insurmountable.

“I can't predict the future, I just hope Real Madrid are champions again,” he told reporters in India.

“Knowing them, they won't give up until it's mathematically impossible. It is true Barca have a good lead right now, but the League doesn't end until May.”

The former winger, who won the Ballon d'Or in 2001, feels it is reductive to compare the candidates for this year's edition, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Comparisons at this level are bad, because one ends up losing and it isn't fair. If you could choose you would have them both for your team because they guarantee talent, quality and of course, goals.”
