Mallorca favourites insists Oltra

Deportivo de La Coruna boss Jose Luis Oltra said Real Mallorca are favourites to progress after the 1-1 Copa del Rey draw at Riazor.

Manuel Pablo gave the Galicians the lead in the first leg only for Pedro Geromel to equalise for Los Bermellones with a 71st minute header, and Oltra acknowledged Joaquin Caparros’ men had taken a step towards qualifying for the next round.

“The tie is still open but we would have liked to have kept a clean sheet because we now have to go to Mallorca and score at least one goal,” he told assembled reporters.

“They now have a slight advantage with having to play the second leg at home but this was a strange game, weird.

“In the first half we lacked fluidity and rhythm and failed to create anything. It was a game without chances and little competitive football.

After the break we were slightly better and got our reward with Manuel Pablo’s goal. It seemed like we had them where we wanted but they equalised and we have now made it more difficult for ourselves.”

Oltra admitted that the priority for both sides was La Liga, in which they meet again at Riazor on Sunday.

“Both Coaches made decisions thinking about the weekend. Right now the Copa del Rey, although an attractive competition, is one we are aiming not to win but to compete in because certain teams have other priorities,” he admitted.
