Morata up for Madrid challenge

Real Madrid strike Alvaro Morata says he is up for the challenge of trying to force his way into Jose Mourinho’s team.

Mourinho has been criticised for not giving youngsters from the club’s reserve side a chance in his starting line-up, particularly by former Madrid star Bernd Schuster, yet Morata is willing to give it his best shot and will not shirk the challenge.

“Real Madrid is the best in the world and whenever you are with the first team you must give your best. If I have to go and play for Castilla I do, but if the first team needs me then I’ll be there,” he told Real Madrid’s official website.

“The forwards here are among the best in the world and I’m hoping to get my opportunities. I have to take advantage of any minutes I get little by little in order to be a better player.”

The Madrid-born 20-year-old played the full 90 minutes of the 4-1 first-leg Copa del Rey victory over Alcoyano, but reserved special praise for teammate Jose Rodriguez who rounded off his debut with a superbly taken goal.

“Starting out and scoring a goal like that is a dream. He’s a great guy, an incredible player, and he’s started out with a great goal. I wish him all the best.”
