Baba lacking confidence feels Michel

Sevilla boss Michel believes striker Baba Diawara is suffering a crisis of confidence in front of goal.

The Senegalese missed a golden opportunity 10 minutes from time against Real Zaragoza last weekend and may struggle to get into Michel’s starting line-up for Thursday’s Copa del Rey clash with Espanyol.

“He has had his minutes on the pitch, his chances, and will continue to get them, but I don’t think there is too much difference whether he starts or not,” Michel told reporters.

“We work with him a lot but mostly it is a lack of confidence. He sometimes plays as though he is very repressed and under pressure, because playing for this club is not easy.

“When you go out and try to please so many people sometimes it doesn’t come off, but he is good physically.

“When he acquires more confidence he will have more success because I see it in training all the time.”

The 24-year-old was signed from Maritimo in the last January transfer window but has made just three starts in his 14 La Liga appearances, scoring three goals.
