Barca, Valencia with Cup wins

Barcelona and Valencia got their Copa del Rey campaigns off to the best possible start with a pair of comfortable victories.

Despite leaving out a number of first-team players, Tito Vilanova still started the game with a host of world-class talent against Segunda Division B team Alaves.

Dani Alves returned from injury, whilst Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas were all picked from the off.

The Blaugrana were showing their class from the first whistle, and eventually took the lead on 40 minutes. A David Villa strike crashed off of the crossbar and crossed the line.

Almost immediately after the interval, Iniesta fired a superb shot from outside the area into the top right-hand corner, and then right at the end of the match, Alves crossed for Fabregas, who flicked his header in to win the match 3-0.

Elsewhere in the competition, a relatively strong Los Che side including Ricardo Costa, Ever Banega and Andres Guardado, travelled to Catalonia to face Segunda Division B team Llagostera at Estadi Municipal.

The lowly hosts battled valiantly, breaking down wave after wave of attack, but eventually gave in right on half time, as a Daniel Parejo cross found Jonas, who headed in from inside the area.

And Mauricio Pellegrino's men sealed the win midway through the second 45, as Parejo's corner went to the head of Nelson Valdez, who buried it past Jose Moragon.
