Real Madrid put in five star performance

Two goals for Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo and one for Jose Maria Callejon were enough to give Real Madrid a 5-0 win against Real Mallorca.

As Jose Mourinho's men looked to chase down Barcelona and Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga, it was no great shock to see them dominate the early exchanges.

And it wasn't long before they were ahead. On eight minutes, a defensive error by Anderson was seized upon by Higuain, who smashed the ball past Dudu Aouate from the edge of the area.

The home side though, were soon back on their feet, and started to impose themselves on the game. Giovani dos Santos and Emilio Nsue were causing problems out wide, and it was the Spain U-21 international who almost troubled Iker Casillas with a delicate chip.

Los Blacos however, were just too strong going forward, and doubled their lead midway through the half. Higuain played the ball to Ronaldo on the right-hand side of the area, and the Portugal international fired it low across goal, into the far corner.

The away side could have further extended their lead through Luka Modric and Ronaldo, but had to be content with going into the break, just the two goals up.

After the interval, still the reigning champions were monopolising the ball. The attacking triumvirate of Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria were proving as mercurial as ever, but were unable to break down the Islanders backline.

It was the figurehead of that attack though, who showed them who it was done. A through ball from Ronaldo went into the path of Higuain, who buried his one-on-one finish.

Madrid never really got out of third gear all evening, but three minutes later had added a fourth. Higuain reversed the favour for his teammate, and Ronaldo raced onto a pass before poking the ball in from the edge of the box.

As injury time approached, their was still time for a fifth and final goal, as Ozil crossed for Jose Maria Callejon to tap in.
