Di Matteo on Terry, Cole links

Roberto Di Matteo denied any truth to speculation linking John Terry and with a moves to Spain, but admits Ashley Cole could go.

Contract talks with left-back Cole have reportedly stalled in recent months and as a result he has been paired with a switch to any one of a number of European clubs, including Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Terry’s reported frustration with his employers and belief that his own contract was expiring saw rumours in the week emerge that Valencia were in his future.

“There is nothing in this,” commented Chelsea manager Di Matteo today when asked about Terry.

“I do not now where the speculation that they are leaving comes from. It makes no sense.

“It is needless to discuss it because it is not true. Terry has this season and another on his contract and it is premature to talk of him being on his way out.

“Last season there was much criticism of the ‘old guard’ and they proved everyone wrong. Nobody knows what the future holds, but for now he and Cole are here, they are our players and all that matters is how they play.”

However, the Italian did admit that Cole could leave, with his contract still set to expire next summer.

“That's the world of football. That's how you live in this world, in this industry.

“We had the same last season with some players and, at the end of the day, we all have to be professional and try to do our best, even though maybe the contract is not sorted out.

“Cole’s a fit boy. He can play every game, so he still has many years in front of him. My point is that I would like him to stay here and be here with us.”
