JIM gives Levante players credit

Levante boss Juan Ignacio Martinez felt his players deserved all credit for overcoming opponents Twente in their Europa League clash.

Martinez’s men scored three times without reply in the second half at the Ciutat de Valencia to crush Steve McLaren’s men, and Martinez insisted that to beat a team of the Dutch outfit’s quality reflected greatly on the merits of his players.

“We played a great game against very tough opponents who initially caused us plenty of problems, so it’s all credit to my players who had to work very hard,” Martinez told assembled reporters.

“They forced us to be patient but the truth of the matter is that if you don’t concede goals defensively then you gain ground.

“The team’s recent run has been good but there is no time for us to enjoy it because the game against Granada is already upon us, but we showed how we can play.”

The 48-year-old, however, refused to comment on the performance of Russian referee Vladislav Bezborodov, who upset opposite number McLaren with some of his decisions.
