Athletic Bilbao midfielder Markel Susaeta insists victory in Thursday’s Europa League clash with Lyon is vital for the Basque club.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men sit bottom of Group I with just one point from the opening two games and know a win over Lyon, who hold a perfect record, will be crucial to their chances of progressing.
“We know Lyon win a lot of games at home and it’s vital we get something, so we will have to play an almost perfect match in order to win,” Susaeta told a Press conference.
However, despite conceding two goals in the last few minutes to go down 3-2 to Valencia last weekend, he believes Los Leones are starting to show signs of improvement after a disappointing start to the season.
“In the last games we’ve had a good rhythm of play and intensity. At Mestalla we had some good chances although Ander Herrera’s sending off was damaging to us,” he explained.
