Klopp: Madrid better than last year

Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp has hailed Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid team as better than last year.

The Bundesliga outfit take on the Spanish champions in a Champions League group game on Wednesday night, with Klopp even claiming that the loss of Marcelo through injury was not an advantage to his side.

“In Amsterdam [against Ajax] they were outstanding and had everything – tactics, speed, pressure, quality and superior skills. I’ve seen them many times but they’ve never been as good as in that game,” he told a Press conference.

“I think Madrid are going through a good spell and are even better than they were last year, so we’ll need to be very disciplined with the ball. We have to face other players who are key to the development of football.

“What is clear is that it will be a great challenge for us,” added Kloss, who dismissed Marcelo’s absence as unimportant.

“I don’t know what my colleague Mourinho will do [to replace Marcelo] but I get the feeling it won’t be a great advantage to us.”

In addition, the 45-year-old, who spent his entire playing career with Mainz, confirmed that Marcel Schmelzer and Mario Goetze will be available for the clash with Los Blancos.
