Casillas: Difficult in Germany

Iker Casillas has reflected that three points at Borussia Dortmund would almost qualify Real Madrid for the Last 16, but ‘it’s always difficult to play in Germany’.

Los Blancos travel out to Dortmund this Wednesday for the third round of group stage matches in the Champions League.

With a 100 per cent record to their name so far, Real will be targeting another win, but for their captain, it won’t come easy.

“It is always difficult to play in Germany. I remember the last time we won in Germany was against Leverkusen 12 years ago,” reflected Casillas to Real Madrid’s official website.

“We won 3-2 and it was difficult. This is a very exciting match, exciting for fans worldwide who like to watch football.

“Borussia have a spectacular stadium with fans that really cheer for them. We hope to get the three points that I think would almost qualify us for the next round, and give Real Madrid the peace of mind of being in the Last 16 of the Champions League.

“It won’t be easy. We know that Dortmund is not doing great in the Bundesliga, but this is Europe. Playing against Real Madrid and before their fans might motivate them a lot.”

The ‘keeper was asked for his take on having reached 400 career wins with Real Madrid at the weekend.

“Data, numbers, statistics… The truth is that you are not aware of it today. It is not easy to say that you have 400 wins in however many games. I don’t even keep track.

“I think it’s the result of having worked hard in the past and, as I have said many times, it is always wanting more, excelling and aspiring to keep adding to this club.”

Casillas also spoke a little on the fans’ support from the weekend, where they chanted his name regularly in the win over Celta Vigo.

“I'm embarrassed, really. I do not like being the centre of attention at all but I also understand that people will show you their support. It is always well received when fans give these tokens of affection.”
