Ruben Castro: My goal was legal

Real Betis striker Ruben Castro claimed his stunning 15th minute disallowed strike in the goalless draw at Osasuna should have stood.

The 31-year-old curled a superb shot past Andres Fernandez only for it to be chalked off as he was ruled to be marginally offside.

However, Castro told assembled reporters in the mixed zone after the game that he believed it was the wrong decision, yet he also lamented a missed opportunity in the second half when he was through on goal but embarrassingly fluffed his lines.

“I think that for my disallowed goal I was in line with the defender,” he maintained. “For the second one I controlled the ball well but it didn’t go where I thought it would.

“However, a point was very good because it was earned at a very difficult ground to come to and our attitude was really good.”

It was a verdict with which Betis goalkeeper Adrian concurred.

“This place is very, very tough to play at because the fans carry their team along, but it was important to finish the match with a clean sheet.

“We had some clear chances to have taken something more and they hardly had any, yet if it’s not possible to win then the next best thing is to take a point.”
