Simeone: Falcao free-kick ‘delicious’

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone described Radamel Falcao’s stoppage time free-kick winner at Real Sociedad as ‘delicious’.

The Colombian’s curled effort proved decisive at Anoeta, but Simeone acknowledge it had been a difficult game against the Basques and that his team had not performed to the level of previous weeks.

“We’ve done well in the last few minutes of games but we were looking to win the match. It was hard and tough against difficult opponents.

“We didn’t start well and were not up to the standard we have previously shown. In the first half they controlled the play, although they didn’t create any clear-cut chances.

“The second half was more even, back and forth, and they could have scored on the counter-attack while Falcao could have got two. However, Falcao’s free-kick was delicious.

“He clearly is very strong and when we got the free-kick on the edge of their box I saw him go towards the ball and take it. It was his hunger for goals that led to the free-kick.

“Falcao has trained hard to improve that facet of his game and we saw the consequences,” added Simeone.
