Barca to appeal Mascherano dismissal

Barcelona are set to launch an appeal against Javier Mascherano’s second yellow card in Saturdays’ Saturdays’ 5-4 win at Deportivo de La Coruna.

The Catalans consider referee Paradas Romero was wrong in the decision that led to the dismissal of the Argentine international for two bookings, and are hopeful he will still be available for next weekend’s game at Rayo Vallecano.

The former Liverpool man was again chosen to partner Alex Song in Tito Vilanova’s central defence in the absence of Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique, although if his appeal is unsuccessful the Barca boss could well draft in Marc Bartra.

Reports in Spain have suggested that the 21-year-old is highly rated by Vilanova but so far this season has not been given an opportunity despite injuries to key defenders.
