Callejon’s home-grown hint

Jose Callejon has hinted that he would have preferred to have seen Nacho play for Real Madrid in yesterday’s win over Celta Vigo.

The young full-back, who is a member of the Real Madrid Castilla side, was an unused substitute for the 2-0 win at the Bernabeu, with Michael Essien instead playing at left-back.

Whilst Callejon praised the Ghanaian’s adaptability, he left a hint of frustration that the club did not turn to its youth team first.

“Every squad always likes to play people who are home-grown, of course, but the Coach has decided on Essien for the left-hand-side because he felt that was best for the team, he has done well and it has to be respected,” mused the attacking midfielder, himself a former youth team member.

“We have learned that this team’s defence is fantastic as always. The Coach has done well, Essien seemed to do well. The Coach brought him in because he can play several positions and he has done well today.

“We have had some casualties from international duty, unfortunately, and the Coach has had to rebuild the defence. Anyway, luckily today we have won the game, there have been no more injuries and we have played at a high level.”
