Suarez hopes this is Atleti’s year

As his team sit joint top of the table, Mario Suarez has admitted today that he hopes that this year belongs to Atletico Madrid.

Atleti are currently unbeaten in 2012-13 and shared top spot in the Division with Barcelona during the October international break.

Preparing for a return to League action this weekend away to Real Sociedad, Suarez has admitted to hoping this year proves to be one for the club.

“I hope that this is my year and that of Atletico Madrid. My mentality is to be a better player every day, to continue to grow as a player because whatever is good for me will also be good for the club and the team,” he told Europa Press today.

“Hopefully this will be Atletico Madrid’s year, also that of Falcao and also that of Juanfran and of all.

“It would be nice for everyone, even if the reality is that Real Madrid and Barcelona are above all, in terms of budget and in terms of everything, but we are the co-League leaders and the mentality is to go game by game, because we know where we are.

“But it would be nice for the League to have alternative title contenders.”

That Atleti are in a position to consider themselves likely alternatives is, according to Suarez, in no small part down to Coach Diego Simeone.

“It has been essential that the Coach was a former player, a part of the historic Atletico side that won the double, he is an idol.

“Simeone transmits what he wants and we are left on the field with clear ideas and that is very important.

“Besides what he has transmitted and knowing everything that he has won as a player, when we go out on to the field we do so wanting to compete and play.”

Earlier in the week the midfielder commented on Radamel Falcao’s desire to stay with the club and again he was asked to reiterate that point.

“I talk a lot with Falcao and he is happy here, and we are doing things well and he has already said that he wants to win titles with Atletico and participate with Colombia in the World Cup, these are important goals for him.

“He is very calm and very well, he is at ease at Atletico because this is where he wants to be.”

The midfielder reflected of the importance shaking off injury troubles has had on his form this season.

“Finally I have no discomfort, no pain and it shows on the field. I feel confident in our Coach and an important player because things are going well both for me and the club.”
