‘Not impossible to beat Barca’

Nelson Oliveira has reflected on the task that awaits Deportivo de La Coruna this evening when they host League leaders Barcelona.

Tito Vilanova’s side visit Riazor still unbeaten in the 2012-13 Primera campaign and, as striker Oliveira believes, will bring out the best in his Depor team.

“We will give our maximum, be our best version, because only then can we beat Barcelona. They are a great team, but we have quality and we will see what happens,” the 21-year-old told reporters in the build up to tonight’s game.

“All Barcelona players have quality and play the same way regardless of the injuries. Mascherano is not a pure centre-back, but he plays very well in that position,” responded the Portuguese to questions of whether Barca’s defensive absences may assist the Galicians.

“It is not impossible to beat Barca, but inherently difficult because they have a great squad and are very difficult to beat.

“I will not discuss our plan, that is for the team. We are talking of stopping the Barcelona players, but there are many ways to do it, we are talking of the best way to stop them [on Saturday].

“Barca have no weaknesses, but they attack down the wings very well and often and Depor can exploit the spaces that they leave.

“If you look at the history of Barcelona, I cannot remember a game where they have had less possession than the opponent, even against Madrid.

“We should be seeking other ways to harm them. It is not always that the one with more possession wins the game.”
