Mou: Messi 4, Ronaldo 1? Impossible

Jose Mourinho has again spoken of his belief that Cristiano Ronaldo should win the next Ballon d’Or award because he is equal to Lionel Messi.

The Argentine is in line for a fourth successive individual title, but for Mourinho, it would be an unfair reflection of his Portuguese attacker’s work at Real Madrid in the past year.

“Let’s stop with the jokes. The Ballon d’Or is for the best, be that Cristiano or Messi,” he told France Football this week.

“But I ask you, if they are both equal, is it normal for one to earn four wins and the other just one? It is not.

“Then there is another thing – picking up the Ballon d’Or without winning an important title with the team. I am not here to talk about the [Club World Cup], which was not desired, nor do I speak of the Supercopa, which is tiny.

“To me, the titles that matter were won by Chelsea and Madrid. One was European champion and the other was top of the best League in the world.

“Therefore, if Cristiano does not win the Ballon d’Or this year, he will not win because he is not very friendly, his image does not sell well, he does not give interviews to apologise for arguing with a teammate on the pitch…” concluded the Coach sarcastically.
