Suarez: Falcao wants to stay

Mario Suarez says that he and his Atletico Madrid teammates are unconcerned by the continuous transfer rumours surrounding Radamel Falcao.

The Colombian remained with the club in the summer transfer window but has still seen speculation on his future at the Calderon continue.

For Suarez, though, it is not an issue, as he is in regular contact with the striker and does not see a player pining for a move.

“The best way to take the rumours is to see him,” the midfielder told reporters today.

“Falcao has expressed his desire to play here and conveys that confidence every day. I cannot say anything more about it.

“Falcao is very relaxed, he transmits so each day and nothing more, he cannot give any more [in training].”

The 25-year-old spent this international break watching Spain defeat Belarus and draw with France in World Cup qualifying, but he admitted that he hopes one day to be involved.

“Hopefully I can play for the Seleccion, because it is a dream and a goal and they are the best.

“For that I have to work hard, go step by step and hopefully in the future the chance will come. I’m going to work to wear the shirt because it would be an honour.

Suarez was also asked of Atleti’s ambitions for the Copa del Rey. The draw earlier today sees them avoid a potential meeting with one of Real Madrid and Barcelona until the final.

“A club like Atletico cannot fall in the first round. The Cup has us excited and we have to go game by game, that is the mentality that we are using since Diego Simeone arrived and it is working.”
