Casillas: ‘I had reached a point…’

Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas has explained his reasoning behind a recent posting on Facebook and on how he is dealing with current criticism he is facing.

Earlier this week the goalkeeper posted via his official page on the social network website a response to recent stories surrounding him.

Talking to AS today briefly, the 31-year-old explained why he chose to respond to these stories.

“We live together in social networking and I reached a point where I decided to give my opinion on the comments that had arisen in previous weeks,” he reflected.

“I thought it appropriate to say. I just wanted to clarify some things and opted for a medium that has a large pull at the moment.”

The ‘keeper has faced criticism in recent weeks for his perceived drop in form, but he is not letting it get him down.

“I’ll have to take it with humour. Whenever it is constructive criticism then it is positive. When you take a path that is great and in two games you are not brilliant, it’s all black.

“But in two or three games things can change. I’m not going to get nervous now. I’m going to keep working and trying to change those views.”

Casillas was also asked about the allegations that Barcelona secretly filmed Pepe during the Clasico meetings of 2010-11 looking for misdemeanours to his behaviour.

“I do not know what to say. It would surprise me that Barcelona would make that kind of video. I understand the right to observe the opponent, but that is not befitting a club like Barca.”
