Young French defender Raphael Varane has joined the injured list at Real Madrid after the recent international break.
Varane returned to training complaining of muscle fatigue after playing two games with the France Under-21 side against Norway, and has been added to a list that includes Marcelo, Alvaro Arbeloa and Fabio Coentrao.
The 19-year-old was immediately ordered to miss training and was subjected to physiotherapy in light of Saturday’s game with Celta Vigo at the Santiago Bernabeu, which could see boss Jose Mourinho forced to field a depleted side, particularly in defence.
Of the 19 Los Blancos players who have been away representing their countries in the recent internationals over the last 10 days, no less than seven have returned to the club with one injury or another.
“Every cloud has a silver lining,” Mourinho was quoted by Marca as having said to his coaching staff when learning of the news, although he was perhaps trying to impart some positive vibes to those who had come back healthy.
