Goalkeeper Javi Varas has observed a mood of excitement in the Celta Vigo camp leading up to their trip to the Bernabeu.

Celta will take on reigning champions Real Madrid in the capital on Sunday evening.

“There is no fear,” the 30-year-old told a Press conference. “They are very excited because many of the players have not played in the Bernabeu before. It is a beautiful setting to enjoy a beautiful day for Celta and the players.”

The injury crisis which has struck down Real players Marcelo, Fabio Coentrao and Alvaro Arbeloa has some tipping a shock result but Varas believes Los Blancos have ample resources to deal with the situation.

“Eventually their eleven will be strong, because they are one of the best clubs in the world. No matter whether they are low or not, Madrid is Madrid, and they continue to have the same virtues.

“They are all internationals, Real are not just Cristiano Ronaldo.”

The former Sevilla custodian also spoke out on the recent criticism levelled at counterpart Iker Casillas.

“He's the best goalkeeper in the world, all said. The criticism is unfair. Goalkeeper mistakes are always high profile, but he is a reference point for all Spanish goalkeepers and for me too.”

Varas is pleased with his club's efforts since promotion in the summer.

“Before the season we would have signed for where we are now. The goal is to stay in a quiet location. We're in a good situation, but have just begun. Additional effort is needed.”
