Jordi Alba: Spain tired towards end

La Roja defender Jordi Alba said it was possibly tiredness that cost Spain all three points against France.

The Barcelona defender had seen Sergio Ramos give the hosts a 25th minute lead in their World Cup qualifier at the Vicente Calderon, only for substitute Olivier Giroud to equalise with virtually the last action of the match.

Despite that, Alba insisted Vicente del Bosque’s men should have sealed the game before their physical level dropped in the second half.

“We controlled the opening 45 minutes and even missed a penalty, but we had lots of counter-attacks and chances. During the second half we weakened physically and I also think we let too many easy passes go astray.

“I don’t know if it was fatigue on our part but France became stronger and got their goal in the last minute. Nobody likes to concede in that way but we gave our all. Anyway, we’ve got to get our heads up now,” he told reporters.

On the injuries to David Silva and Alvaro Arbeloa, Alba commented that ‘it’s always a shame when players get hurt but hopefully they’ll recover quickly’.
