Sergio Ramos: La Roja looked foolish

Spain defender Sergio Ramos said La Roja were made to look ‘foolish’ after conceding a 94th minute equaliser against France.

The Real Madrid defender had opened the scoring for Vicente del Bosque’s side on 25 minutes, poking home after a corner from Xavi Hernandez, but substitute Olivier Giroud’s late header ensured the French a share of the spoils in their World Cup qualifier at the Vicente Calderon.

It was a goal Ramos thought had left Spain with egg on their face after appearing to have all three points wrapped up.

“It leaves you looking foolish after the work we had put in to have secured the points,” Ramos told TVE1 immediately after the game. “The goal was more our fault than anything they did, but we are not blaming anyone.”

Ramos added that Spain could have finished Les Bleus off but failed to do so, while hoping that the injuries to David Silva, Alvaro Arbeloa and his Madrid teammate Karim Benzema were ‘hopefully nothing’.
