Eric Abidal returned to work in the gym today as he steps up his recovery from a liver transplant ahead of returning to action for Barcelona.
The Frenchman underwent the procedure in Spring of this year, just over 12 months on from initial surgery on a tumour discovered on his liver. He has since been preparing for a projected last 2011, early 2012 return to action.
On from reports over the weekend that he has upped his training regime with a specialised fitness programme involving mountain hikes, the player has today come back to the club’s training base and begun gym work.
It remains to be seen exactly when he will be able to return to the field, but the Frenchman was today working alongside his senior teammates who were not on international duty during this break, including Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique.
