Barca: Supercup issue not financial

Barcelona spokesman Toni Freixa has confirmed why the club do not want to play future Supercopa de Espana trophies in China.

The Catalans are again reported today as being united with Real Madrid in opposition to the Spanish Football Federation’s plans to schedule five of the next seven editions of the tournament in the Asian country.

Barca are believed to be likely to lose out financially with such an arrangement, but Freixa explained today that money is not the motivation for their stance.

“We do not talk about pay-outs, even if it seems that if we went to China we would lose money, but that is not the reason,” he told reporters today.

“We do not want to compete for the Supercopa when so far from our fans, even if we do understand RFEF’s desire to do business in an appealing market.

“Our decision against the Federation is thinking towards our members and the players. Barca does not want to dispute the Supercopa in China for social and sporting reasons, because technically it is not desired.”
