Real Madrid’s Mesut Ozil says there is a long way to go in La Liga and that Barcelona still have to go to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Despite eight points separating the clubs at this stage of the season, Ozil insists the title race is far from over and sent a message of hope to the Madrid fans who want to see the club win a 10th European Cup.

“In football anything is possible. There are many games left and they still have to visit us. They have the advantage but there is still plenty of time.

“As for the 10th, it is a long road but we’ll be doing everything possible to win it,” the German international told Marca, before insisting he is happy at Madrid.

“I’ve matured a lot here and one of my goals was to play under Jose Mourinho, which I am doing. My aim is to grow as a player and at Madrid I get the confidence to do that under Mourinho. I’m very happy.”

Moreover, Ozil insists he plays the same way under the Portuguese as he does for his national team with Joachim Low.

“Both in Madrid and Germany, when I attack I am free. I can go down the right, left or through the middle…I have the ability to surprise and try to take advantage of that ability.

“ I really don’t think it changes much how I play for one team or another. Both bosses want the best and that’s what I try to give on the pitch.”

On comparisons with Zinedine Zidane, Ozil said he was ‘unfortunately not as good as Zidane’  and confessed that when he plays football he enjoys it and does so because ‘I don’t get nervous and never feel under pressure’.

Finally, Ozil referred to the controversy over Sergio Ramos’ decision to wear a shirt underneath with Ozil’s name on when he celebrated a goal.

“We are great friends but that’s another story. We had talked about it before and if he scored a goal then he was going to dedicate it to me, which he did.”
