Xabi Alonso: Mourinho hard to replace

Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso believes boss Jose Mourinho will be hard to replace when he finally departs the Santiago Bernabeu.

Alonso was speaking on Cadena Cope’s El Partido de las Doce programme and talked about his relationship with Mourinho as well as Xavi Hernandez’s remarks that the Portuguese would not go down in history.

“Mourinho will leave a big void that will be difficult to fill when he is gone,” affirmed the former Liverpool player.

“I am very comfortable with him and he is the Coach I want here right now. We have a good relationship and we talk about many things.

“When he’s no longer here his absence will be felt and it will leave an important gap.”

Questioned about Xavi’s words, Alonso was unequivocal in his defence of Mourinho.
“He has already made history and is still making history, so he can’t do much more. His career [record] speaks for itself and there are not many who have achieved what he has.”

Alonso was concerned about the news that Brazilian left-back Marcelo is set to miss the next three months of the season.

“We are concerned and it’s bad news. Marcelo is a vital player for us.”

Regarding the controversy surrounding goalkeeper Iker Casillas in recent days, Alonso was unperturbed.

“There are some things that are taken out of context and cause laughter. There are no snitches at Real Madrid ,” he insisted.
