Griezmann thinking only of Sociedad

Real Sociedad midfielder Antoine Griezmann has quashed rumours he is looking to leave the club by insisting he is comfortable in Spain.

The French-born attacker came through the ranks at the Anoeta and has confirmed he wants to help the club reach its goal of playing in the Europa League.

“In the summer my only thought was to stay at Real,” he told Le 10 Sport. “I signed a new contract until 2016 because I am very happy here. There was no contact from other clubs. I thought only of Real Sociedad.

“I feel good here. With this team I want to climb La Liga, which for me is one of the best championships in the world. In the future, you never know what might happen, but for the moment I feel good here.

“We knew the start of the season would be difficult, but it's a long season and there are a lot of games to go. Our goal is to do better than last season and try to reach the Europa League. We have to show on the pitch what we want to achieve and try to be ambitious.”

He also commented on rumours he could have moved to Marseille over the summer, as well as remarking on the game between Spain and France on Tuesday.

“They were just rumours,” he said. “No one called me or the club. Every transfer window has its rumours, but I just ignored them. My favourite team in France is Lyon anyway. Ever since I was little, I went with my father to watch their matches.

“I think [French boss Didier] Deschamps can do anything, and that Spain are not unbeatable. There is a group of young players now in France and I think they can compete on an equal footing with any team.”
