‘When Casillas is at 9.5, we worry!’

Iker Casillas has full support from the goalkeepers’ union, as fellow shot-stopper Jordi Codina backs the Real Madrid man after criticism.

Casillas has been scrutinised for his attempts to save Lionel Messi’s second goal in Sunday’s Clasico, but Codina, a former Real Madrid player now at Getafe, believes it was just a good goal.

“This bothers me! Who says this? It is very easy to say ‘Iker is at fault for both goals’ and sign it anonymous. It is easy, but a lie,” he exclaimed to a Press conference today in asking if Casillas was to blame.

“The live images are great. He goes to save the ball, when he gets up he looks, it was a miracle, it was a goal, the ball was struck perfectly. Iker could not do anything.

“I do not believe that he could have stopped it, I do not know. I think it was a great goal.

“I think he is doing very well. I have seen every Madrid match and I think he has been very good. He can make a mistake, as we all have.

“We are very spoiled, Iker is usually at a 10, or 11. When he is at a 9.5, everyone wonders what is wrong. He is human and can also make a mistake.”
