Figo celebrates Ronaldo’s 100

Luis Figo has paid tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo as the Real Madrid man approaches 100 caps at international level.

Former Real winger Figo is Portugal’s all-time appearance record holder with 127 caps won during 15 years with the national side.

Today he spoke to the media of Ronaldo’s impending landmark. The 27-year-old is set to reach 100 caps for Portugal if he plays in the team’s games this week and next against Russia and Northern Ireland.

“It is a sign of his qualities, his availability for selection and his huge desire to represent Portugal,” 39-year-old Figo reflected to reporters.

“I think Cristiano began to take his first steps in the team at Euro 2004 and eight years on has the conditions to make many more appearances.

“100 caps is a round number, behind which there is much happiness, our expectations to always achieve our goals and above all, the will to always do better and to surpass what we have already achieved.”

Ronaldo is behind only Figo and Fernando Couto, with 110 caps, in the all-time appearance list for the national team and is also third in the all-time scorers’ chart with 37 goals, behind Eusebio on 41 goals and Pauleta with 47.
