Lago rallying cry for Celta-Madrid

Celta Vigo defender Roberto Lago has issued a rallying cry to his teammates, saying they must go all out to beat Real Madrid.

Left-back Lago [pictured, right] believes Paco Herrera’s men have the ability to shock the Spanish champions when they take them on in the next round of fixtures, although he accepts Jose Mourinho’s men will also need to have an off day.

“They say we are going to the Santiago Bernabeu for a day out but I don’t see it like that,” he told a Press conference. “We are Celta and can win there if we do everything to perfection and they have a bad day.”

The Galician admitted that to cause a shock against Real Madrid ‘will be very difficult’ but also pointed out that ‘in football nothing is impossible’.

“We are a young team and have shown that against teams of this level we do well. Why can’t we do it against Real Madrid?” asked Lago, who sees the capital team and Barcelona as ‘superior’ to the rest of La Liga.

“Right now there is a lot of difference between Real Madrid and Barcelona with regards the rest. Before there was more equality and there were more surprises at the Santiago Bernabeu than the Camp Nou.

“However, the purchasing power of these clubs must also be taken into account.”

After the Madrid game Celta take on Deportivo de La Coruna in the Galician derby, a clash that was a Segunda fixture just last season.

“For obvious reasons we will be playing for more against Depor than in this game but we can’t afford to just give up against Real Madrid.

“We’ll have plenty of time to think about the derby. I’m not against anything but I’m from Vigo and I want to be better than Depor and the rest of the teams in La Primera,” he concluded.
