Ronaldo to link up with Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo will link up with Portugal after tests on his shoulder proved the injury is not as bad as at first feared.

According to Real Madrid’s official website, the player was examined at home by club doctors on Monday morning to discover the extent of the damage suffered in the 2-2 Clasico draw with Barcelona on Sunday.

It has now been decided that Ronaldo will now join the Portuguese squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Russia on Friday and Northern Ireland four days later and will not need to undergo further tests.

The news will come as welcome relief for both Madrid boss Jose Mourinho and Portuguese national team Head Coach Paulo Bento, after it was initially feared the former Manchester United player could suffer a spell on the sidelines
