Celta ‘beat a great team’

Paco Herrera was delighted with Celta Vigo’s win, describing the three points earned against Sevilla as being against ‘the best team we have faced so far’.

The Galicians’ Friday night kick-off saw them run out 2-0 winners at home to Michel’s side, thanks to second-half goals from Iago Aspas and Quique de Lucas.

“Spending overnight in the middle of the table is fantastic. It was one of our goals,” Herrera enthused afterwards.

“The other was to keep a clean sheet. This game has to give us absolute confidence that we are able to beat anyone, [yesterday] we have won against a great team.

“For their youth, my players have great virtue in learning fast. [Last night] they played a great game against the best team we have faced so far.

“The entire team has shown absolute concentration at all times.

“Now coming up we have three games, two very difficult against Real Madrid and Barcelona, but one against Deportivo where we can fight head to head.”

One surprising team selection by Herrera on Friday saw Sevilla owned goalkeeper Javi Varas, who was eligible to play for Celta, miss the match. The Coach explained that this was down to a finger injury sustained late in preparations for the game.
