‘Not only La Real struggle away’

Philippe Montanier insists Real Sociedad aren't getting carried away with victory in the Basque victory, and defends their away record.

La Real defeated local rivals Athletic Bilbao 2-0 at Anoeta last Saturday, continuing their trend of winning all their home games and losing on away days.

“We were pleased with the win, but our work each week is different,” the former Valenciennes trainer reflected.

“We played a good match, but the following match must be equal. There is no euphoria in the locker room, we are all focused on scoring points away.”

Sociedad have lost 5-1 to Barcelona, 1-0 to Mallorca and 2-1 to Levante on their travels.

“It's hard to win away,” Montanier continued. “For example, if you look at the last round of fixtures, there were only two away wins – Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. It's hard for us, but for everyone else in the League also.”

The Frenchman then discussed the merits of Saturday's opponents Real Betis.

“I prefer to look at our strengths rather than the weaknesses of the opponent. A good result away from home would be nice to maintain our ranking.”

Sociedad are currently eighth, level with Betis on nine points.
