Asenjo: Atleti can beat anybody

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo believes the way his teammates are playing they can beat anybody.

Although far from their best, Los Rojiblancos ground out a 1-0 Europa League win over Viktoria Plzen thanks to a late Cristian Rodriguez goal and Asenjo feels it is the mark of a good side.

“We didn’t deserve to win this match because we produced a terrible performance, but it was fantastic to win in the last minute,” Asenjo told assembled reporters.

“It was a joy for the people that don’t play regularly to get some football and it was good to have helped the team on the road to qualification for the next round.”

The Spanish Under-21 international thinks the spirit in Diego Simeone’s squad goes a long way in helping to turn things around during games.

“Our morale is sky-high and we know that we can beat anybody. Personally, I have had a hard time in getting back to my best after injury but the Coach has confidence in me,” he insisted.
