Michel: Sevilla must self-motivate

Michel is keen for Sevilla to maintain focus on each game they face and to control their motivation from within.

The team have already beaten Real Madrid this season and similarly came close to doing so against Barcelona last weekend too.

In preparing to travel to Celta Vigo this weekend, Michel is eager for his players to maintain their motivational level and not to have it drop because they are player a smaller opponent.

“We have evaluated ourselves up to this point, how we dealt with that game, how we have faced previous games and how we will deal with the following games,” reflected the Coach today.

“Celta are a Primera Division team, we cannot be thinking of the past and what has happened, but rather our values and this good form we are in.

“They are an excellent team that has many levels, they are one of the few that like to start to play from the back, they are involved, with the ball they are a very good team and they have good people in attack like Iago Aspas.

“Therefore, we must show caution. Our adrenaline cannot be controlled by who we play against, but rather by us.”

Michel will be dictating play from the stands, after being given a two-game ban for protesting towards the referee during the Barcelona match.

“I did not insult the referee, not me, I did not call him shameless. I raised my hands up and was telling him.

“Maybe he can punish me for that and so I accept it. I repeat that we have no defence as Coaches and the word of the referee is held as the word of God.”

For the game, Gary Medel has been named in the squad, even though he could still be suspended should the club’s appeal against his two-game ban fall through.

“I have spoken to the legal department and I trust them. Medel is in form and has the potential to play, that is why he has travelled with us.

“The club are not firing blanks at this. In my case, no action, in his yes. I am not here to condemn anyone, we are just defending our own.”
