Mallorca hit by Nunes surgery

Mallorca will face a spell without their captain Jose Nunes after he picked up an injury that will require surgery to repair.

The defender damaged the meniscus in his right knee during his side’s 1-0 defeat at Getafe on Monday night and the club have confirmed that after tests, the player does need surgery for it.

It is a further blow for the 35-year-old who missed a large chunk of last season because of a sprained ligament in his other knee.

The defender joins Alvaro Gimenez, who has been out since August with a groin injury and Javi Marquez, who last week fractured his ankle, on the treatment table at the club.

Recovery time from the procedure, which is due to take place on Friday, has not yet been specified, but the minimum expected is a four-week lay-off.
